Four sections, one Award

Every Award is built from four sections you shape around your own interests. Complete all four to earn your Award — at Gold, you’ll add a residential project that takes you even further.

1

Voluntary Service

Volunteer for a cause you care about — coaching, conservation, or helping in your community.

2

Skills

Take a talent further or start something new — music, coding, photography, you choose.

3

Physical Recreation

Pick a sport or activity you enjoy and build real fitness and confidence.

4

Adventurous Journey

Plan and complete a team journey in the outdoors, well beyond your comfort zone.

Enrolment Questions

Most young people begin at Bronze from age 14 and work upwards. You can also enter Silver directly from age 15 or Gold from age 16. Whichever level you choose, all sections must be finished before your 25th birthday.
Progression is for participants who already hold the previous level: you get a shorter route and a lower enrolment fee. Direct entry lets you start at Silver or Gold without the earlier level, with a longer commitment since you are covering more ground. Both options are shown on each level page before you pay.
Bronze takes at least 6 months. Silver takes about 12 months, or 6 if you already hold Bronze. Gold takes about 18 months, or 12 if you already hold Silver, plus a residential project. Your enrolment runs for 12 months from the day you pay.
Plan for about an hour per week on each section, at a time that suits you. The Adventurous Journey is the big one: 2 days and 1 night at Bronze, 3 days and 2 nights at Silver, and 4 days and 3 nights at Gold.
About five minutes. You will fill in the participant's details (date of birth, school and grade), a parent or guardian's name and contact, and accept the indemnity, then pay securely online. An account is created for you at checkout so you can manage your enrolment.
Your enrolment is recorded straight away and runs for 12 months. The next step is registering as a participant on the Online Record Book, choosing an activity for each section, and getting going. The full journey is laid out on the Do The Award page.
